Collaboration with Sean Place / 5 Gallon Passion.

For this beer we wanted to dive further into the endless possibilities of the Oenobeer. Our normal process for our Italian Grape Ale Series is to pick a base beer and find the right grapes to add to it.

For Brianna Rouge, we selected the grape first, then pulled ingredients from a variety of styles to pair with it. The result is this super drinkable, jammy, refreshing ale.

Malt - 2 Row, Flaked Wheat, Malted Oats, Aromatic, 6-Row, Biscuit.

Hops - Centennial, HBC 472, Barbe Rouge

Grape Varietal - Brianna

not sure this is correctly listed as a lager or not, i didnt see that in the description, and there is nothing in the beer to lead me to the conclusion its a lager, but either way its a tasty beer. i love wine grapes in beer, and was stoked to try this, my first from these guys. its not as grape froward as i think i wanted it to be, but the fruit is well incorporated, light tannins and esters from it, subtle apple and pear notes from it, but there is enough malt in here for this to be beer way before its fruit beer, if that makes sense. its simple and pale, quite clear, and without a huge or long lasting head from the tap. some sweetness from the grain in nose and taste through the whole experience, but not over the top, and its actually nice with the grapes, they might not really be here at all if this were bone dry. the fermentation is super clean, almost too clean, and a saison strain or something more expressive might make this more complex next time, but i like its minimal nature. light biscuit and honey notes, and then a huge berry complexion from the hops, barbe rouge is such an awesome varietal, and to pair it up with the grapes in this i think is brilliant, no bitterness at all but lots of smashed strawberry, lightly oily, delicious with the subtle fruit in here. decent carbonation, low alcohol, and light body make this quite drinkable and summery. interesting beer but very subtle, not quite what i expected, but an enjoyable drink and a good introduction to what these guys are all about.
