100% NYS Farm Beer. New York barley and flaked corn provide a light, clean, slightly sweet body. Vojvodina, Crystal, & Cascade hops give the beer a balance of earthy and woody undertones complimented by a bright finish. Spirit of Light is inspired by one of Syracuse's most iconic views, the sculpture adorning the historic ort deco Niagara Mohawk building, Fortunately, if you're at the brewery you don't have to go far to see it, just look outside (and up!).

a nice hoppy pils with largely new york state ingredients, cool they are doing a lot of that here. this is one of their most refined beers, crisp and drinkable but full of flavor, not generic at all on the malt side, and just a beer i want to have a dozen of, summer or winter. nice golden shine to it, fine clarity, and a frothing head from the can, pretty beer, a little more substantial looking than a lot of these. the smell is hops in front of grain, spicy and european and northwestern at the same instant, grassy and herbal, fits the style but robust as they go, and a biscuit note to the grain just a little more rich and hearty than pils malt alone, minerals and crispness. i can definitely taste the corn in this, a cool wrinkle less common in the style, sweet in the middle, nice opposed to the hop bite that ramps up as this moves along. the yeast doesnt have a ton of flavor, a little new dough thing going on, but it dries this out nicely for how flavorful the grain is in it, and the hop bitterness sits there a second longer than the rest of it on each sip. subtle spruce, honey, and cracked wheat. very well made beer, different than most but still obviously a pils. overall a nice use of local ingredients in a quality lager. the most drinkable beer we had here.
