another tasty beer from these guys with clever ingredients. a nice dark but drinkable english porter as a base, done with dried figs and graham crackers apparently, and its subtle in the right ways, something a little different for holiday time, all at our table really enjoyed this one. its deep brown colored with a little shine and a short tan head in the glass, some obvious raisin sort of sweetness in the nose, a little astringency too, cocoa, coffee, dark bread, and identifiable english yeast too. the flavor is better than the nose, the figs are not just dried fruity and sweet, but actually taste like figs, nice with the dark grains in here, i get burnt toast, light campfire smoke, and dark chocolate as well. there is a touch of acidity i cant place here, it doesnt seem bacterial or anything, but it kind of thins it out in the center, not bad just weird. the yeast is old worldy and right for this, there is a bit of honey character i suppose but the graham cracker element is light, and a neat autumnal and wintery fruity complexion. overall a curious and delicious drink, it could be a little smoother and less sweet in feel, but i like that the figs can actually be tastes. these guys are off to a great start, i was impressed with the ingenuity of so many of their beers. this is unique and festive.
