Appearance There was a slight haze to this bright orange body and a fairly decent head to go along with it.
Smell The citrus hops and spicing character come out nicely here. I can also pick up a bit of pine to go along with the malt backbone.
Taste Man, this tastes like crap. It looks good and has a great nose, and when you first drink it it tastes good for like a second or two, but then it just falls apart.
The pine comes on first and is very pleasing, but then the rest of the flavors kind of fast forward into half a second and your left with a mouth full of stale Orange Crush or something.
Mouthfeel This one was pathetically weak and thin.
Drinkability I think the key here is to swig every three seconds until the beer is gone so that you only have to experience the finish once.

Medium amber color, small white foamy head. Aroma is malty and sweet. A medium bodied pale ale. Medium malts, medium hops. Full flavor, smooth taste. Good balance. Nice round mouthfeel. A very nice beer. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

I originally sampled this on 4 February 2002. I am writing this review from my notes.
"Orchard" is one of those discount brews you can find at trader joe's. I found this to be an enjoyable APA
My notes: A cloudy brown beer, w/ very nice balance. It finishes very smoothly. Very tasty.

12 oz brown stubby bottle with no freshness date.
Appearance: Three fingers of head was a treat to look at, the hazy tawny amber was produced from the loose yeast in the bottle.
Smell: Plainly soft citric hop (overused) aroma, a touch of yeast and malt is in there but dull in a way.
Taste & Mouthfeel: Short smoothness with a moderate body. Citric one way hop bitterness draws little flavour, yeast on the tongue is all right but bothersome to me. Malt is toasty with some huskiness in the end. Finishes with a dry grain and hop.
Drinkability & Notes: Run of the mill pale ale, decent that is about it … nothing else really to say about this beer.

Dark Amber colour, much darker than what I was expecting for a Pale Ale, but I am English so thats my problem. Cloudy, obviously unfiltered, with a rather crusty head and medium carbonation. Sweet tasting, but has a great solid malty mouthfeel. Some hops are evident with 'lemons' in the aftertaste. Nice beer, but a little too sweet for me. Annoyingly no strength is indicated on either the packaging or the label.

Solid malt smell with some hops in there as well. Amber color with a white head. Not much retention. Sweet malt base to the taste with a slightly bitter hop finish. The aftertaste is a tongue left with sweet malt. The brew is darker (amber) than most "pales" I've had.
Cheers to mattmaples for the sample.
