Similar to a blind hem in sewing, a Black IPA conceals its true nature. The rich ebony hue is created by the dark Carafa malt, while the Summit, CTZ, and Mandarina Bavaria hops transform it into a true IPA with bold hoppy flavors. Unlike a blind hem, the bold flavor of this beer won’t go unnoticed. It has a smooth, delicious finish and is a real treat to enjoy!

16oz can. First one from Sew Hop’d that I’ve tried. My friend Philip says they’re good.
L: a thick, foamy, khaki head caps a cola colored ale
S: roast & char, citrusy & piney hops
T: roasted barley, baker’s chocolate, orange, grapefruit, pine
F: medium body, very resinous with hop oils coating the palate on the bitter finish
O: one of the better black IPA’s I’ve had!

Had on tap. Slate black with khaki cap and thick lacing. Aromas of roast, pine, earth and a hint of pineapple. Taste is excellent: smoke, roasted malt, char meet piney hops, pineapple rind, lime and hints of grapefruit pith, really well balanced. Feel is more shaped by hops than malt as is proper, yet still earthy and medium bodied. Best SH beer to date!

I tried a can of this beer at my OPD friend's house in the 'Wego. It poured an opaque dark with tan head that left some lace. The scent had roast malt with bitter hop highlights. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with dark cocoa malt and tart pine bitter hop finish. The mouthfeel was medium in body and had good carbonation. Overall it is a solid beer.
