Deep in the bowels of San Diego’s industrial sprawl, where every building looks like it was stamped out by the same dull machine, lies Harland Brewing. It’s the kind of place that makes you question your life choices as you weave through a maze of identical warehouses. But then you see them—the brewery towers, rising like a shining mirage in this concrete wasteland. Follow them, like desperate sailors chasing the promise of land, and you’ll find yourself at the gates of this beer-soaked haven.

Step inside, and it’s a sprawling playground for degenerates and hop-heads alike. Pool tables to the left, bar to the right, the golden glow of tap handles gleaming against a red brick backdrop that screams both industrial grit and polished pretension. Flat screens hang above, vomiting NFL highlights and commercials for trucks no one needs. The digital menus flash with the kind of sensory overload that makes you wonder if you’ve been dosed, but no—this is just Harland, baby.

The beer? A schizophrenic mix of the familiar and the unexpected. The IPAs are there, of course—piney, resinous, and juicy enough to make your head spin. But the lagers—oh, the lagers—those sneaky bastards steal the show. Crisp, clean, and dangerously easy to drink, like the beer your dad used to pound in the garage but reimagined by a mad scientist who found God in a fermentation tank.

Harland doesn’t try to be more than it is. It’s a brewery in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by industrial despair, and yet it’s a beacon of camaraderie and controlled chaos. Come for the beer, stay for the vibes, and leave questioning whether you’ll ever find your way out of that damn industrial park. But that’s a problem for later. For now, there’s another pint to pour.

Large commercial building in an industrial park. Taproom is on right corner of the building with a straight bar to the right along the back wall, some tables about the room, and an arcade/pool room in a separate room to the left. 18 beers on tap, food truck, crowlers to go.

Clean and spacious new digs in close proximity to Newtopia Cyder and Juneshine Kombucha, which is smart because this makes Harland the only brewery (other than Savagewood) on the east side of the 15 freeway in that area. Its clean, open and has plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, s well as pool tables and various games in case alcohol in and of itself isnt enough to keep you entertained. They have about 20 taps going at any given time and carry a variety of styles.

Food trucks on nights and weekends and a nice little gift shop area right when you walk in. Cool place.
