Traditionally made at the Belgian monasteries beginning in the Middle Ages. Deep reddish color, clear with a long-lasting tan head. Complex caramely, malt aroma with hints of dark fruit and spicy phenols in harmony. Rich, complex, sweet malt flavors with dried dark fruits like raisin and figs interplaying with alcohol. Balanced towards malt but with firm bitterness that lingers, finishing surprisingly dry. Pure in spirit and crafted with honest ingredients.

A- 16oz can pours into a becher with a dark red to brown body and a one finger foamy tan cap. Decent head retention and a small ring is left around the edges with a few small islands in the middle. Spotty lacing is infrequent.
S- Finds an impressive balance of sweet and toasted malts, fruity esters and spicy phenols. Spiced dried dark fruits like figs and raisin with caramel, dark candi sugar, slight alcohol, spiciness, toast, breadiness and a hint of bananas. The spicy sweet dark fruit character is just deep and pleasant.
T- A decent hit of bitterness shifts things from the aroma around a bit on the taste buds with the spicy, peppery phenols strengthening as well as a bit of booze. The dark fruits and malts round it out with raisin, fig, dried cherry, caramel, toasty, nutty and sugary notes. A touch floral/perfumy but again balance is key here. Quite spicy/phenolic when all is said and done.
MF- The body is medium thickness not quite reaching fullness but still has a nice silky and fluffy texture. The carbonation is moderately high but the beer remains soft thanks to that texture. Ends a touch warm with spicy bitterness in the aftertaste.
I quite like the differences between the aroma and the flavor here. The aroma is sublime with rich spiced figs with caramel and toastiness. The flavor is more focused on the spicy phenols and malts but is strong in its own right.

Poured on draft at the brewery.
Pours a clear deep mahogany color. Thin head with very little lacing.
The aroma brings some sweet raisin bread, as well as some caramel. There's some fig in there and just a hint of booze.
The flavor is far more caramel forward. Lots of raisin and fig and sweet bready malt character. Nicely hopped on the finish.
The feel is medium-full bodied with light carbonation. Very soft and smooth with a touch of alcohol warmth.
Overall, a great dubbel that is surprisingly drinkable. The body is nice and lacks the stickiness that comes with a lot of Belgian beers. Nicely done.

Enjoyed on tap at the brewery.
A - Poured a nice crystal clear mahogany hue with a thin tan head that fades to leave light wisps. Swirls balloon it right back up as it leaves some sticky lacing as well.
S - Big aromas of super floral notes, light caramel. Little bit of perfume like alcohol, just a flash of it. Candy red malts and sugar as well. Quite pleasant.
T - Taste is similar to the nose, bright caramel, floral light biscuit malts. Good Belgian candi sugars, the fruity phenols work nice along side dark, almost raisin like fruits.
M - Mouthfeel is lightly carbonated, medium bodied and creamy, alcohol hidden well up front with just a touch of it on the finish.
O - Overall this was a very solid Dubbel. Excellent ester notes with a really nice balance of malts, sugars, yeast, and hops. Dig this one a lot.

Draft at the brewery
Nice creamy foamy head, little lacing, crystal clear dark auburn bright red color
Nose big sweet candy reddish malt, grainy toasty light caramel and candi sugar, light perfumey floral alcohol, hint of fruity ester
Taste more big grainy sweet malt, light caramelized malt and Belgian candi sugar, light perfumey smooth alcohol into light phenols and spices, good medium fruity esters, dark fruits, mild bitterness
Mouth is med to fuller bod, light carb and some warming tingle alcohol
Overall another solid beer, a little bit of alcohol, not too sweet and good balance, very tasty and dangerous
