the second one of these in this series i have encountered, its real good. just guava in this one they say, but there has to be a heap of vanilla in it too, its desserty and heavier than it needs to be because of the sugary vanilla richness and the obvious lactose, but the fruit is real i have no doubt, and overall this is better than most in its class, i love the sourness with the tang of the guava, the lemon, orange, and watermelon juice notes i also pull from the fruit and the bacterial souring in aroma and flavor, its summery and mouthwatering, still shows some wheaty grain at its core, and ends up juicy and delicious even with it being sweet and just a tad trendy and forced, but the quality is there. rarely is guava allowed by brewers to fly solo, always married up to things like passion fruit, coconut, and pineapple, but here its on its own and its awesome, tangy, mouthwatering, fresh, sweet, sort of tamarind esque, even a hint of tomato to this to me, vibrant and tropical and very much taking me on vacation. i dont even mind the vanilla with it, it accents its essence and also some lemon character in here, but its just overdone, and limits how much of this i want to drink, even though i like it. the souring is pretty clean, there is some grain keeping it beery, and the use of real ingredients has yielded a superior product overall. i am excited about black spruce, as is the whole alaska beer community it seems. this one is a good time, nice showcase of the guava!
