Taster at brewery. Near black pour with a thin beige head. Aroma is roasty, coffee and dark chocolate. Taste is the same as the aroma, and finished bitter.

I'm trying this beer off the at the brewery as part of a five sample flight. It poured an opaque dark with thin tan ring head that did not leave much lace. The scent had hints of roast malt base with chocolate notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with subtle roast malt base offering dark chocolate and roast. The mouthfeel is lighter in body with subtle carbonation. Overall its a great beer.

Poured from a crowler into a 24oz glass mug.
Look: Cloudy dark brown, though not black. Tan head that dissipates quickly.
Smell: Very light smell of burnt sugar and coffee.
Taste: Hop bite is first on the tongue along with some alcohol heat. Coffee follows, but without the sweetness that the very light smell would indicate.
Mouthfeel: Surprisingly light for a 10% abv stout. The lack of stickiness on the tongue after sipping is nice, but the flavor is gone as well.
Overall: The crowler hissed nicely when I cracked it, but it is a month and a half old. I'm not familiar enough with the ins and outs of the packaging medium, but I will say that its age may well have played a role in how disappointing the liquid inside is. The NE DIPA I tried from this brewery (F-Bomb - also from a crowler, packaged at the same time but opened two weeks earlier) was quite tasty, but this beer was a letdown. An imperial stout is supposed to be an intensely flavored, highly aromatic, full-bodied sensory experience, and I can guess from the light body of this one that even fresh it wouldn't measure up to something like Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout.
