All aboard the IPA train! Abettor Brewing churns out a classic American IPA that’s as classic as boxcar rides and choo-choo trains.
Pouring pale and honey-like with a soft hoppy haze, Depot Street builds a frothy white cap while emitting aromas of citrus, pine, caramel and toast. As the ale settles, it’s first sip leans in with a malty-sweet taste of honey, caramel and light granola.
A switch from malt to hops happens as the middle palate shows a drying of the malt to a toasty, graham cracker-like taste as the hops grow in its citrus flavor. Pink grapefruit, orange, apricot and pineapple all share the fruity load while the hops continue to develop a bitterness that circulates around pine, fresh grass clippings and citrus peel.
Medium bodied and certainly a throwback to more balanced American IPA, the beer’s British roots are showing. A bitter-forward finish leads to a semi-crisp, semi-clean aftertaste.
