Crowler from 2C. Copper colored pour, sparse off-white head. Malty aroma, fruity, touch of yeast. Taste brings light fruity notes, prunes, raisins and a hint of chocolate.

a brand new one from these guys, and arguably their most ambitious beer to date, i really dug it. the cool part about it is that the chocolate isnt all sweet, sure there is some cocoa sweetness in there with the dark grain and candy sugar character of the base dark strong ale, but there is a distinctive bitter earthy chocolate that actually balances the sweetness rather than enhances or extends it, super smartly done there, must be some nibs or some raw dark chocolate or something in here doing that, it really is a cool element i have not really seen much of in strong belgians like this. the extra grain in this compared to their paler belgian styles i have had is really nice, it seems to bring out another side of a familiar yeast, and make the overall fermentation profile of this a little more complex than the others have been, a really nice feature of this. notes of raisin, prune, rum, and dried cherry in the base beer, some molasses type sweetness as well, dry baking chocolate, natural dark chocolate, and bitter roasted character too in the end, great with the fruitiness of the base beer, this is well constructed. the yeast gets this closer to dry in the end, not as sugary as a lot of these are, and the alcohol is remarkably well hidden for its strength. i was impressed with this, both in concept and execution, hopefully a sign of things to come from 2c!
