Taster at the brewery. Murky brown pour, almost no head. Aroma is sweet and malty. which follows in the taste. For a dunkelweizen, I found this it be thin, not roasty enough and kind of bland.

a very traditional and tasty offering here, they have been doing the german styles really well of late. this is not super dark, just a deep rust color, lightly hazy, and has a nice head from the tap at the brewery where we enjoyed it yesterday afternoon. the aroma here is lightly spicy from the yeast but also has the familiar german banana and clove thing going on, white pepper to me too though, and maybe a hint of dry cocoa powder from the malt, less sweet it seems than a lot of them, relatively complex for a style without a lot of wiggle room. there is a little bit of astringency in the flavor, just a quick tang, maybe intentional maybe not, never quite sharp, but it keeps this from getting frothy and creamy textured from the wheat like i like in the style, but it also makes this fast drinking and drying on the palate, a trade off but not an objectionable one. i love the lighter but full flavored wheat to this, softly toasted, a quick hint of red apple or even cider making autumnal and nice with the obvious banana esters from the yeast. the high carbonation really helps this be thirst quenching, and satisfying. a very nice domestic take on a style we dont see enough of from our breweries in this country. i hope they keep this one rocking for awhile.
