Draft at Handlebar. Clear, golden pour with a thin white head. Malty aroma with light orange notes. Taste is hoppy, mildly sweet, citrusy. Nice little bite.

locally grown citra in this american pale ale, malty for what it is, a little unclean on the ferment, but the hop profile is excellent, and its neat to get to have some more of their hoppy stuff, seems they have moved a little more concretely into this space. this one has perhaps a little more malt balance than it needs, light copper in color, clear and high shine, but the toasted sweetness of the grain obscures the hops just a bit, citra can be kind of delicate, and even though its boldly dosed here, part of it is easily lost to the malt. that said, the flavors do play real well together, the earthy grain along with the bright summery citra, which pops with tangerine and fresh cut herb notes, some lightly resinous character too, yum. my issue is with the ferment, it seems estery, even lightly phenolic, which increases as it warms, it should be cleaner, it seems done too warm, and its a shame because there is an obvious clash with the hops, its disjointed and a little bit unprofessional. a shame, because the rest of this is very solid and shows cool evolution for them. i expect this will get better in future batches on the technical side, but even now it is a nice addition to their lineup. cool showcase of the local citra hops too!
