Switchback Porter (First sold December 2009)
Like all of Switchback Brewing Company's beers, the porter is unfiltered and 100% naturally carbonated. Switchback has put its own unique stamp on the porter style, creating a bold and full flavored porter with the balanced smoothness to the finish for which Switchback beers are known. A unique blend of roasted malt, caramel malts, and flaked barley are used to create the luscious malt signature, and the very non-traditional use of Simcoe hops as the only hop variety for both bittering and aroma is used to delicately balance the overall flavor profile. The result is an eminently satisfying brew that will leave you wanting another.

Rich and slightly sweet taste. Very smooth and still bold enough for a porter.

Always pleased to find a beer that is simply pleasant to drink. Nice fruity nose here and nothing too complex about the taste. Easy drinking and light. Solid porter. I'm on board.

Reasonably priced simple porter. Nice color and pour. Good head. Taste is ok, a bit metallic and a little "empty".
Easy to drink, definitely worth having and good enough for any regular occasion.

Pours dark brown like coffee. Slight aroma of grains and dark chocolate. Head disappears quickly and lacing is minimal. Has a smooth malty taste with mild hops. Like the Switchback brews and this is another good one. Overall a very drinkable porter.

Poured into a pint glass a nice dark brown, almost black, with a touch of red in the light. Smells of roasted grains and a faint dark chocolate. Nice tan colored head initially, but dissapated quickly. Had a decent porter taste with lots of malt, but balanced by a mild to medium hop presence. A little “thin”, but an overall solid, very drinkable brew.

Draft: Poured a clear black color porter with a nice large foamy brown head with good retention and some alight lacing. Aroma of roasted malt with light black chocolate notes is enjoyable. Taste is a nice enjoyable mix of roasted malt with some black chocolate notes with some light residual sugar notes. Body is light with good carbonation. Well brewed porter that is brewed within style guideline.

On tap at the tasting room. I am a huge Porter fan so I was looking forward to tasting this fresh at the brewery.
Pours a nice black with some reddishness when held up to the light. Small carmel head from the pour that leaves a very nice lacing on the glass. You can smell the roasted malt though the nose is faint (though the February walk to the brewery may have affected that). You can definitely taste the carmel sweetness of the malt which is balanced by the hops bitterness. Almost too hoppy for my taste but that maltiness saves it for me. Looking forward to having this again.
