a decent take on the style, but also somewhat generic as the american made belgian stuff goes. this is a shade or two darker than is common, not amber or anything, but approaching brassy or even copper, with good clarity but not as much head from the tap as i look for in the belgian types, i want frothy expansive lasting head, and here its gone in just a few moments. its yeast driven in nose and taste, estery and familiar but not overdone, some sweetness remaining from the grain it seems too, a lightly toasted aspect to it, hints of citrus and black pepper as well, well grounded, and i find myself enjoying it being on the maltier side, and i kind of wonder if they just used a bigger grain bill here rather than the traditional non grain sugar spike, it has the body like that but i am not sure how its made. a definite honey note arises in the middle, earthy and floral along with the spiciness of the yeast, very nice. overall i like the flavors and this is fine beer, but its the texture that is lacking for me, i want belgian styles to be way more alive than this, and even though it tastes nice, it doesnt quite get there in mouthfeel. this is a hard style to get right and they came close so i respect the effort, well hidden alcohol strength here too.
