a robust and tasty brown ale here done with honey, deep brown in color, smooth to drink, short of roasty but full of malt depth, a picked up by a lot of honey flavor without much residual sugar, a smart recipe and very well executed. lots of chocolate malt to this, a light raisin and milk chocolate bar taste in the center, some cool nuance in the depths too though, light licorice and black tea, and a light rum note as well to me, almost woody in that way. the honey is floral and apparent, makes this kind of summery for a darker beer, and the ferment is rather clean and minimal here, its just the malt and the honey swirling around together, really good, lighter to drink than it looks, but absolutely full of flavor. sometimes these classic styles, basic beers, reds, browns, blondes, that sort of thing, they get samey and boring, but this is distinctive and good enough to not be lost in the shuffle, which was pretty much true across the board with their beers here. one of the better browns of the year for me so far, this place rules!
