more of a brown porter, a fine drink, but a simple and light beer, a very minimal take on the style, well refined and professionally brewed like so many of them are in here, but just not a very robust porter at all, to me as much a brown ale as anything else. a good amount of light coming into this, shiny and silky looking, a good airy tan head on it too, but the color seems too light for the style, there, i said it. its still got the roast to it, no real sweetness either which is nice, plenty of espresso and dark fruit notes even though this is as light as it is, less sugar, no appreciable bitterness to the roast either, but still lots of character from the dark grain. dry cocoa powder and tobacco come to mind in the taste, but this drinks almost like a european dark lager, quick finishing and light, nothing like the american porters i am used to. i like it being different and i like that there is still a sort of lathery feel to it, not as minimal and it sort of looks and tastes, some serious texture to it, but dry and bubbly too. really nice there. cool beer, different for the style, drinkable, and basic but not boring, hard to do, especially in this style. i like a more bold porter, but this is well made beer all up.
