the new utog cans all look great, good time for a rebrand. this new beer is really solid too, i was impressed with the boldness and natural nature of the mango, so many of these are sweet and candy-like, cheaper tasting, to the extent that im not even a huge fan of the style at all anymore, but they really did a good job with this, the souring is clean and the fruit is real, it makes such a difference. murky orange from the pint can with a muted brassy luster and a very short lived white head settling back to a fizzy ring. the nose is melted mango popsicle, pulpy and juicy like that, with some lemony sourness, lactic but clean, and not all that acidic, it seems to serve the mango, pale wheat malt seems to lead the way on the grain side. the flavor is mango first, ripe and real, juicy and present from start to finish in this. the souring is well tempered and clean, this is drying on the finish but not too acidic to drink on. the high carbonation helps push through all the grain body, but this is just a little fuller still than it needs to be, maybe a little stronger too, not as refreshing and sessionable as the flavors kind of suggest, but it doesnt slow this down much. really summery and fresh, the real mango makes it but they have the souring down here too, im sure this will become a series with other fruits, but it seems perfectly suited for mango. really dug this, stands out from a lot of what else is out there in this increasingly sort of cheap and trendy style, nice!
edit: i liked this less on tap, way more sour than it was from the can, could be something to do with freshness, but its more lactic and sharp now, still on the clean side, but too intense to want to drink a whole lot of it, and the mango seems a little faded off too, so it wasnt as compelling in this format. leaving scores from the fresher cans mostly place...
