cool these guys are selling beer in idaho now, this is a tropical fruit hefeweizen, one of the first i have seen from them on tap around town, and i believe brewed for pride. its got peach, pineapple, and orange in it, and i think its a pretty neat style fusion, drinks modern and even a little hoppy to me, new school all the way, but the base hefe is quality too, a nice pint. it looks a little more orange tinted than most of these, less outright wheaty, but still with a big frothy white head and the familiar haze the style has. the nose is a bit sweet to me but also surprisingly hop forward, melon notes and lemon along with the more obvious stone fruit and orange, less pineapple to my senses, but definitely a different kind of take on the style, less of the yeast that typically defines it, at least in the nose. the flavor is a little more hefe forward, some banana and allspice esters to this, but subtle and well integrated with the fruit, yellow peach, cantaloupe, and smarties candy. definitely can still taste and feel the wheat too through all of this which is key for me, earthy and drying and with some fuller body. this does have some residual sugar but it flatters the fruit and the yeast, and overall even though this is unconventional, i thought it was quite good. the right amount of clever in a classic style. great for summer weather.
