A 12-oz. pour at the brewery. Dark beige soapy head with long retention and blotches of lacing. Clear reddish amber color with ruby highlights.
A balance of caramel and toasted barley malt greets the nose with faint grassy and herbal hops.
Neutral taste with moderate bitterness, roasted character now leeds the malt taste, likely from the addition of rye to the malt bill. Hop flavor is more pronounced with some of the bitterness coming from the roasted malt. A hint of baked apples and pears arrives late as bitterness rises to above average, the hint of fruit sweetness is quashed by a drying finish. Roasted malt and hop bitterness lingers briefly.
Medium body with lasting carbonation, smooth and balanced. Alcohol is hard to detect. True to style and easy going down.
