Born on the western bicultural borderland of Baja California, Mexico, Tecate® was originally created in 1944 to be the perfect thirst quencher for the miners working in the area. We are still proudly brewed in our namesake town of Tecate, using the same high quality recipe. Tecate® Original is a full-bodied lager with a refreshing crisp malt flavor and a pleasant aftertaste – the way a Mexican cerveza should be.

I would call this Mexico's version of Pabst Blue Ribbon. It is a light bodied and refreshing beer with hints of corn and very little bitterness. When poured in a Kolsch glass, it produces a very white head and leaves lacing on the glass. This was a surprise. The mouthfeel is pleasant, but there is too little carbonation for my tastes. This is a beer that tastes better when it is served very cold.
The "poor" rating is unfair. This beer should be judged for what it is - a very affordable American adjunct lager.

Appearance: Clear yellow, good head.
Smell: Some breadiness, seltzer-y.
Taste: Very neutral, a little breadiness, a slight bit of sweetness, maybe a hint of earthiness. Medium-light body.
Overall: Another resort beer, for some reason I thought Tecate was total bottom-of-the-barrel stuff, but it is just aggressively mediocre. It’s fine for a lightish lager drinking by the pool or at the beach.

It makes for a good Michelada, though.

From a 473ml can dated BB Sept 2025. Poured into a pint glass. A two finger fine white head on a clear gold. The head slowly diminishes to a layer. lots of fine lacing.
Corn malts in the nose. The taste is also corn malts. Some kind of off flavour.
A light body and good carbonation. Overall a drinkable crusher, just not very good.

Been awhile since I tasted a Tecate. Here we go, 24oz can dated: BB June 2026. Abv 4.5% poured aggressively into an imperial pint glass. Gold. Standard gold. 2 finger white soapy head, that leaves a trace. Smell is SWEET. honey blossom/sweet malts/light on the hop character. Taste, follows the smell. It almost comes off like a Polish lager. The profile. I like it. It finishes semi-sweet. Not quite dry. Refreshing. A solid beer to pair with salty, Chinese food, or Mexican. Not a world beater, but a refreshing lager… especially COLD. Cheers!

A mix of good and bad. Light and crisp with a bit of toasty bread and roasted caramel malt aftertaste. Tastes better from the bottle, if you can find it. You’ll get subtle mole chocolate, spice, and herbs. But I just noticed an unpleasant taste of corn, burnt raisins, burnt hair, and toxic tap water. Kinda gross.

A can poured into a restaurant table glass.
Pale gold, weak head and lacing.
Mild malt and hops flavor, lite bodied.
No off flavors, just a very mild beer.

At my lady Pamela's house; canned and chilled, 473mL in a pint glass. From my favourite but now closed The Beer Store on Goyeau St. in nearby downtown Windsor. Best before August/25. My second beer from the Monterrey, Mexico brewery, and for 2025. With Gracie the cat...

Really good in a Michelada but doesn't have that distinct Mexican beer taste you get from a Corona or a Modelo.
