Lovely dark black with a tan one inch head that laces down the entire glass. Smooth and well balanced. Slightly sweet malt on the tongue. Lightly carbonated. Tremendous example.

Solid black appearance with a lasting tan head
Body is just slightly thin with light carbonation.
Aroma is an excellent mix of malt,of malt, bread, brown sugar, cereal, and molasses.
Taste is very similar to aroma, almost dry like, earthy, very mild bitterness.
Overall this was one of my favorite black lagers.

On tap at Piecasso in Stowe VT. Pours a very dark brown with a foamy head and long-lasting lacing. Roasty on the nose and very roasty on the back end. That overshadows the toffee but in an interesting good way.

Pours a dark reddish brown color. Opaque but when its held to the light its clear and semi-see-through. Huge tan colored head collapses pretty steadily but never completely leaving a thin velvety layer of foam on top of the beer. Tons of tan lacing remains on the glass as the beer is consumed.
Aroma has notes of smoked malts, lighty roasty, a hint of cocoa, with some earthy malt notes on the back end.
Tate follows the nose with notes of smoked malts up front, a hint of cocoa, some charred wood notes, and some earthy hops on the back end. There is a certain creaminess to this one in the flavors - it comes across very smooth. There are some oaky tannins in this as well - really complimenty to the overall flavor profile.
Feel is smooth, again almost creamy, but still quite drinkable. Mildly carbonated. Short finish.
Overall this is a damn good beer. The smoked malts are so perfectly balanced and the smoothness is lovely. A real pleasure to get to enjoy this one.

Pours a dark brown, edging to blackish, with a voluminous tan head that tracks to the glass like Velcro as you drink this beer.
The nose is earthy hops with some toffee notes, some bread, and the wood. Oh, the wood. The taste led by the toffee flavors, and there’s an earthiness present, but I keep coming back to that wood flavor that smooths this beer out into a crisp finish.
This reminds me SOOOOO much of the Schell’s caved-aged/barrel-aged lager, which is probably the highest compliment I can give this beer, because I loved that Schell’s beer.

Pours black with two fingers of dark khaki foam. Head retention is great. Aroma is roasty, toasty, nutty, bready malts with a hint of earth grittiness to it. Caramel, molasses and toffee add a dash of sweetness, while still keeping the malts in the focal point. Flavor profile is much more smooth with a touch of creaminess to it. Roasty, toasty, nutty, bready, lightly-earthy malts create a tapestry of earthy, whole-bread. Caramel and toffee add a little kick of sweetness, but not even close to enough to off-set the balance. Mouth feel is medium-thick with a smooth, creaminess that rewards each sip. Overall, really quite fantastic imparting both depth and simplicity, all within a comfortable package. The texture is really great.

The appearance is cola colored: Mostly black, with some dark brown at the bottom of the glass. The head, when poured semi-aggressively, is a foamy and soapy tan. After a few minutes (moderately good retention), it dies down to a foamy tan film and leaves streaky lacing.
The aroma is bitter chocolate, burnt toast, burnt sugar, and black coffee.
The flavor brings bitter dark chocolate and baking cocoa upfront, followed by a bit of black coffee and some tantalizing hints of caramelized sugars, caramel, and burnt toast. The finish offers a hint of grassy hops and then a faint lingering roasty bitterness.
The mouthfeel is surprisingly hefty for its abv--not watery in the slightest, moderately carbonated, a bit creamy, well-rounded. The beer is crisp, clean, and lightly dry.
Overall, this is a remarkable Schwarzbier. Fantastic stuff. I wish I could drink this beer for the rest of my life.

16oz. can into Night Shift stemware.
Nose is liquorice, roasted malt and a touch of tartness. Mellow. Beer opens liquorice, roasted malt, sweet cream and lactose. A nice char is balanced by a soft, mellow sweetness in the middle. Finish is roasty with more liquorice and smoke. Body is light to medium with moderate to ample carbonation. Prickly in the mouth but goes down crisp with a creamy, smooth aftertaste that lingers.
I don't visit this style often but this is quite good. Nice balance and really well integrated flavors. Impressive.

Dark chestnut-brown, with 1/2" tan head , and persistent lacing. Barely translucent, when held to the light.
Aroma is of roasty/nutty malt, cocoa, and a bit of char, similar to a malted milk ball + a little charcoal.
Initial taste is mild black coffee, followed by cola ,caramelly, roasted nuts, finishing with a slightly charred, lightly bitter cocoa flavor. Some hint of tang, such as with sourdough bread crust, that's not quite sour, as it warms Light lingering bitterness on the tip of the tongue.
Medium , lightly oily, lightly creamy feel, that ends with very fine carbonation tingle , that accentuates the bitterness on the finish.
Overall, very balanced, and thoroughly enjoyable. If not for reviewing this, it would one of those beers that has such "drinkability", that I wouldn't notice it 'til it was gone. Outstanding, and the best schwarzbier that I can remember ever having. Do let it warm up a bit.

Thanks to Tongorad for this one from a Secret Santa BIF. 16oz can poured into 14oz teku. Poured a solid black color with over an inch of khaki head that had very good retention and light-to-moderate retention.
There was a solid, yet subtle, roast note at the front of the nose. Soft grains under that, with some gentle hops and caramel at the end. On the tongue, a pleasant dose of smoke hit. no smoke in the nose, but solid across the palate.
The body was light, smooth, and even, with a medium finish. Drinkability was very good, I'd be grabbing these if they were local to me. Overall, a very nice brew, certainly worth your time if you see it.
