Celebrating a long-time relationship with our friend Bob at 2SP Brewing in PA, we brewed this big ol' stout! 50W (Fifty Weight) hits all those high-gravity notes, with aromas of dried figs, dark chocolate, and toffee.

This pours like a 50 weight oil - with 2500 miles on it.
Thick, jet black and "oily" looking, a tall mocha colored head formed slowly and receded quickly leaving a persistent film of tan foam and spatters of lace. A low head kicks up upon swirling so there is carbonation hiding in the darkness.
Aroma is an amazing blast of rich black and caramel malt with hints if anise, molasses, dark chocolate and green apples.
The flavor (cold) initially disappoints - sharp and astringent on the tongue with little of the malt presence hinted at in the aroma. More sharp hop and scorched grain bitterness dominates the underlying malt base. I let it warm some more......
Ok so some malt balance does come forward as this warms a bit but it is still a timid 12% RIS though highly drinkable as it is less than heavy on the palate and not boozy or harsh just... less than impressive.
The finish is surprisingly clean with a very tasty, full of dark grain sweetness and low level bitter bite but harsh and raw, not really heavy but a bit cloying even cold.
Rough around the edges, this could use a few months or more in a cool cellar to let the fruit flavors come through the crude.

12oz can at share. Black pour, ring of beige head. Roasty, sweet aroma, chocolate, caramel, raisins. Taste is figs, prunes, chocolate, toffee. Thick and gooey.

A - Pitch black pour with thin (yet dense) toffee colored lacing.
S - Chocolate, chocolate char, a little bit of dark fruit, and some grainy char.
T - There's a terrible off-flavor in this beer that's hard to peg. Besides tasting off, there's some dark fruit chocolate char, and alot of booziness.
M - Big medium body along with heat in the back of the throat.
O - Glad I only had one can. Unfortunate because I like both of these breweries. Oh well. :o(

Pours a dark brown with a 1/2F head and light lacing.
Smells of coffee and bourbon.
Tastes of toasted malt, coffee, bitter dark chocolate, caramel and raisins with a lightly bitter, boozy warm finish.
Medium heavy body with very light carbonation. Lush syrupy mouthfeel.
This is a very tasty and bitter sweet, powerful sipper.

Pour very dark, near black, pretty quickly departing dark mocha cap, goes to a fine bubble film and just a ring of low lacing.
The full bodied sniff reveals notes of dark chocolate, espresso, mocha goodness.
On the palate its over the top fudge brownies, waves of chocolate....perfect beer to go along with a piece of death by chocolate...straight ahead, no frills, just a richly flavorful and robust imperial stout...well crafted and well worth seeking out. Big and bold stout lovers rejoice.

L: 3.5 Nice dark body but a head that quickly dissipates. Carbonation visible, looks thin but leaves visible lacing.
S: 4.25. Complex. Sweet chocolate. Dark fruits. Earthy Hops.
T: 4.75. This is excellent. Figs. Roasted malt and coffee. Finishes with a pleasantly bitter baker's chocolate. The booze sneaks through but its to be expected in this ABV range.
F: 3.75. Medium bodied with a little alcohol burn.
O: 4.25 Absolutely love this and highly recommend it. Reminds me of Founder's Imperial Stout. A well crated Imperial Stout with no silly adjuncts to spoil the brew. Will try to resist drinking the rest of the pack to see how it ages.

Canned on 11/1/2022. Poured into a stemless stout glass. It pours jet black with a half finger of creamy, light mocha head and spotty lacing. The nose offers roasted malt, caramel, and nutty char. Its taste is extremely roasty, nutty, and bitter with burnt coffee grounds and baker's chocolate. There is almost no sweetness initially but as it warms and breathes there are notes of caramel and a very slight hint of dark fruit. The mouth feel is rather lite with moderate carbonation and it drinks below its 12.1% ABV. Overall, 50W is an OG bitter dry stout. it has no adjuncts. It's good to drink such a basic and well-brewed stout.
