Doing their part to turn the world of IPA upside down and backwards, the brewers of Broad Leaf turn to the hops of Wai-iti and Moutere for elevated fruit, spice and spruce character upon an imperial New England-styled IPA.
With a tarnish taupe and khaki pour, Mirror Dimension builds a plush ivory froth that plays host to a firm and fruity hop perfume. Stone fruit, citrus and spruce radiates on the nose while its taste of poundcake, light honey, cereal and sugar cookie makes an initial malty impression.
As the hops unfold on the middle palate, the malt and cereal sweetness show a slow fade and remains to support the hop flavor. Passionfruit, pineapple and grapefruit have a firm presence while more peach-like flavors follow up the citrus. Hints of orange and apricot have a slightly bruised character while the ale develops into a spicy gin-like taste late with impressions of fresh pine, lemon pepper and grass clipping.
Full bodied but relatively easy to drink, the beer is anything but one-dimensional finishing malty-dry and with a mild hop bitterness that linger like hay, tea, alcohol spice and botanical herbs.
