Coogan's NYC

Truly one of my favorite places. Just north of Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center, Coogan's is a classic American-Irish pub/restaurant nestled in the bosom of Washington Heights. Coogan's has a connection to three different parts of the American experience. The first is American Track & Field. It shares a block with the 168th St Armory, the home of the Fighting 69th AND the Millrose Games, the premier in-door Track & Field event. Coogan's shares a closed circuit link with the Armory, just sayin'. The second is the Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center, home of the (second) oldest medical school in the US, whose physicians use Coogan's as a go to area to unwind. And finally, the Dominican community, who dominate the neighborhood and who were all in when Coogan's was threatened with closure (I have on good authority that Lin-Manuel Miranda was at that meeting).

So the Vibe is seriously awesome. Service and food, right up there. Coogan's has several in-house brews of which Coogan's Double Ale (reminiscent of Pete's Wicked) and Dyckman Triple are most front and center. This is where I took my took my wife on our second date, my sisters when my father had a CABG, and my (adult) children when their grandfather had his hip surgery. If you are in northern Manhattan, a must-go. Love this place.
