Our exploration of the possibilities related to the world of hopped beers continues with a new entry in our Temporalis series dedicated to it. Following on from our first West Coast outings over the past few months, particular concern is devoted to drinkability. Lower in alcohol but just as hoppy, this beer consists of a West Coast Pale Ale. Putting forward a good aromatic contribution of hops, it presents a balanced bitterness as well as a dry finish. Definitely a thirsty West Coast!

From a 16oz can, with a largely illegible dated stamp - 07/25/23 maybe? IG shows 07/27/23 release date. Served in a spiegelau IPA glass.
Pours a crystalline honey-gold with a scant two fingers of soft, soapy suds. Retention is unremarkable, leaving just a fizzy cap and pretty much no lacing at all to speak of. But myriad streaming columns of super-fine carbonation which are mesmerizing to the point that I’ve almost forgotten to do the smelling thing…
Nose is sweet and malty with just a little citrusy hops evident. Aroma is vaguely reminiscent of a biscuit with honey.
Taste is biting and brisk - less malty-sweet and more bitter and resinous than expected. Tasting lemon zest, grapefruit pith, honey and pine resin.
Feel is clean and quenching, medium bodied but with abundant bright, zesty carbonation making it feel lighter.
Overall, very nice! It’s funny how rare it is to find a bracingly bitter, resinous, pine-and-pith-centric IPA in these parts (the States) when they used to be fairly common. I wouldn’t expect to see Messorem churning these out on a regular basis - and I wouldn’t ask them to - but once in a while would surely be appreciated.
