The Old Dock Street Brewery "Spring Haze"
16 fl. oz, can without freshness dating or production codes
Notes via stream of consciousness: So the name here is "spring haze" and as such I thought it would be a cloudy NE IPA but it's just a hazy pale ale at 5%. It;s deep golden in color beneath a fluffy head of off-white. The aroma is floral, minty, citrusy with orange, and herbal and piney. The flavor delivers more earthiness and herbal notes than citrusy fruitiness, and to be honest, it's a little weird. Not that I'm against weird, weird can be great, an I am all for innovation, but this is not great. The malt is basic, grainy and lightly bready and sweetish. It's a good base for hops but these hops seem to have gone a little off the rails as it finishes quite earthy. It's not that bitter, but within APA range, and it finishes dry. In the mouth it's medium bodied and gently crisp. Overall it's not a bad pint but it is a little different.

Welcome back to New 4 x 12 Stable Street Dock Hands Beer Sunday (Week 689) as life CANtinues on Dock Street for The CANQuest (tm)!
From the CAN: "One in a series of seasonal, rotating hoppy and hazy pale ales."
I only slightly chilled this one since I needed to get it built, take a picture, resize the pic & submit it for approval before anything else could happen. Upon Crack!ing the vent open, I realized that it was a brimful craft CAN. I am not one for cleaning up messes, so a slow, gentle Glug was in order to keep things under CANtrol. It was only very lightly hazy, so I got out my spoon for an in-glass swirl that produced just over two fingers of fizzy, foamy, rocky, bone-white head with very low retention. Poof! It was reduced to wisps with only light lacing as a reminder of its presence. Color was an oh-so-slightly-hazy Yellow-Gold (SRM = 4 -5). Nose was back to the tropics, especially of sweet, overripe mango with its partners, guava and papaya, but with an unusual mintiness, not pine, but more like spearmint. Almost tea-like in its fragrance. Hmm. Mouthfeel was medium. The taste was an odd mélange of flavors, from citrusy orange to sweet mango to minty tea. Very mellow & very easy drinking. It was very tea-like both in its flavor and its mellowing effect. I took a deep breath after each draught to CANtemplate this beer. I liked it, but it was kind of out of spec for the style, especially when the standard-bearer is SNPA, which is quite hoppy & bitter, just a step or two down from an AIPA. This had enough sweetness on the finish that I have to dun it at least a little. Remember, review to style & not to taste!
