Smooth and malty, with hints of chocolate, dark fruits, and roasted malt, TOASTED MONK is a traditional Doppelbock that is rich in both flavor and history. Once regarded as "liquid bread" by Munich Monks, this delectable beer was consumed during long fasts in order to satisfy cravings.

On draught at the brewery. Pint pour in a snulip glass. It pours a hazy, cranberry-magenta color. The ecru-colored head disappeared very quickly. It's smell is very subdued; just sweet malt and whiffs of dark fruit and tobacco smoke. The taste opens with lots of caramel malt and hints of chocolate and fruity esters, including notes of apple, raisin, and plum. It's quite bitter at the finish. The mouth feel is fairly thick and creamy with appropriate carbonation, and it drinks easily at 6.5% ABV. Overall, Toasted Monk is a nice local Doppelbock but it isn't at the level of the leaders of the style, including local favorite Ramstein's Winter Wheat Doppelbock
