I spent the day driving through Swiss Franconia with some friends. After a long day of driving around we were looking for a place to grab a bite to eat, and on a Saturdays in January that can be rather difficult. We drove through a few towns around Aufsess and we stumbled upon this Brauerei/Gasthof.
A. The outside looks like many other Gasthauses with its traditional styling. We sat at one of a few tables the dining room. The entire room was made of wood, and the decorations were old; reminding me of a Grandmothers house. There was a large table full of what must have been all the old men from the surrounding town. A few other younger men strolled in after a day of hunting. This place has a very local, almost family feel to it. It was old, but clean. There wasn't much in the way of a bar. A counter with a tap pouring one beer, and some glassware behind it.
Q: The beer was good, and I'm assuming quite fresh since they only make one. The food was really good. Maybe it was because we were all hungry, but it was really good.
Srvl: There was one waitress, which was plenty enough for the entire dining room. She seemed nice (I'm not that good at deciphering German yet) and was quick enough with the food and beer.
Sel: Selection. What selection? They had one beer. That is fine. I think it's common in the area, but I am sure there are other breweries in the area that are small and manage to make a few different beers. I think that in this case it's not a big deal that they offer only one beer, but I would have to say it's below average for selection.
Food: The food was really good. The four of us split a plate of Franconian Bratwurst and bread. Watch the Sharf Senf! It's one spicy mustard (from the horseradish). The bratwurst were thick, had nice grill marks, and tasted great.
4 beers, 1 cup of coffee, and 8 large bratwurst (probably a double order) came to 18 Euros.
