Northern Helles is our flagship lager. We use German malt and ferment cold with a Swiss lager yeast strain, for a clean malt backbone with notes of sweet crusty bread. Our unique house acid culture is added in the brewhouse to control the pH level of the beer and achieve a crisp, refreshing finish after fermentation.

We top it all off by moderately hopping with New Zealand hops for hints of floral fruit, complementing the crispness perfectly.

Northern Helles is hazy, served unfiltered, and perfect for cracking open with friends.

Copenhagen 23/5 2020. 44 cl can from Mikkeller Webshop. Simple metal can with a burgundy stripe and a big black D. The version I am drinking holds an ABV of 4,8.

Pours slightly unclear pale yellow with a medium-sized white head. Stable. Settles as thin layer of foam struggling to cover the surface of the beer. Crawling up the sides of the glass. Substantial lacing.

Aroma is moderately intense with a subtle malty sweetness and some grassy freshness. Pale sweet malts, bread, straws. Light grainy sourness.

Medium strong carbonation. Thin, watery, lively texture.

Flavor is medium intense with a medium strong sweetness followed by slightly more moderate bitterness. Aftertaste is bitter with a light sweet undercurrent. Dry finish.

Simple, crisp lager. Not too sweet and well-balanced.

Pours a clear, golden yellow with thick fluffy head.

Smell is clean, crisp and floral, with a light maltiness and notes of citrus and rye.

Taste is extremely clean and crisp, light and floral, with hints of wheat dough and citrus and a perfectly balanced bitterness. Outstandingly refreshing.

Mouthfeel is thin but well carbonated.

Overall, a superb Helles, almost perfectly made.
