On tap at Black Flannel Brewing in Essex, VT.
This pours a very dark black color, with a small head, and lots of lacing.
This smells herbal and bitter in a great way, with dark chocolate, licorice, and roasted malt.
This is an extremely spot on black IPA – bitter, dry, and resinous, with a touch of orange peel, buffeted by a pillowy chocolate malt backbone, with plenty of roast and a touch of licorice, which I usually don’t like, but enjoy in this instance.
This is medium bodied, finishes quite dry and bitter, but not astringent, with a really nice drinkability overall.
This is one of the best black IPAs I’ve had in years – I don’t see that many anymore, so a great one really catches my attention.

It pours very dark black with a beige head. The aroma is malty and roasty with very little hoppiness. In terms of flavor it is definitely on the dry side, with a mellow bitterness and a very enjoyable smooth mouthfeel.

16 oz. can.
Canned 07/14/20.
Moderate pour yields a 5/4 inch tan head over a black body with nice lacing. Nose of dark roasted malt, hops, and slight chocolate. Taste mirrors nose with the chocolate malt coming forward very nicely. Delicious! Nice feel and overall, a great representation of the style and would highly recommend this offering from Essex, Vermont.
Cheers!
