really tasty peanut stout, a style that has really proliferated in recent years, but this is better than a lot of them, still not fully peanuts or peanut butter in the taste, but its less artificial than most of its peers, and the base beer is sturdy and creamy and an excellent vessel for this flavor, my mother in law adored this! near black, not as viscous as some, short headed, matte finish. the nose here is roasted peanuts, a little chalky, but close to real, dry cocoa, light vanilla, heavy roast, a big coffee note, subtle cola and leather too, quite dynamic. the peanut is bold in the flavor, start to finish, not lingering too long and without the greasiness some of these have, again a little sort of powdery to me, but its right on, and its enhanced by the residual sugar of the base beer, not dessert, but not dry either. more coffee character from the roast, light smoke in the mix, some raisin and toffee middle malt character, and pretty good balancing bitterness to close. dark chocolate and faint tobacco both highlight the peanut. smooth texture, oats likely at the core of this, not super heavy to drink in part because it hides its alcohol rather well. a lot of these taste cheap and forced to me, and this one doesnt. nice effort.
