a really excellent maibock, a beer they should be proud of, and my first from them in some time, a shame because i think they do some cool stuff. this is highly refined, well balanced, distinctively german, and very drinkable for a malt driven brew, its quality very apparent. a little lighter in color than a lot of these, brassy rather than redder or even brownish, average white head on it, immaculate clarity to the extent i can see my reflection in it, lovely and consistent carbonation through the whole drink. the nose is mellow, lightly nutty obviously german malts, a toasted aspect but not overly rich, bready and doughy lager yeast, clean minerality, hardly any hops when its frosty cold, tidy and simple really. the flavor is more dynamic, and for it being a little paler to look at there is nice malt depth in this, honey and an almost apple juice front end, baked and hearty in the middle, wrinkles of almond and toffee without it being overly rich, and its somewhat dry on the back end, short of crisp but not anywhere near as sweet as a lot of these are, the lager yeast is flavorful and fresh and most prominent right at the end, lightly floral hops add to the springy nature of this, and the whole thing is the kind of hearty thats also really drinkable, quenching and satisfying, almost nutritious feeling to me, an impressive example of the style from a brewery that doesnt get a lot off hype on the other side of the state, but probably should. loved this.

Taster flight at the brewery. Amber pour with a bubbly off-white head. malty, caramel aroma, dark bread. taste is bready and sweet, with lovely toffee notes. Nice hefty feel, enjoyable to drink.
