This Extra Stout is filtered through Caphe Roasters Vietnamese expresso beans. It's named to celebrate Philadelphia's renowned Reading Terminal Market. Ironically, it's just a shade more brown than black coffee. With the contents of a pint can now residing inside a clear glass Imperial pint mug, there's very little tan head produced by the pour. The nose picks up roasted barley and roasted coffee beans about equally. Yet, with all that roasting going on, this isn't bitter at all, until the finish. Chocolate references can't be avoided. The taste is smooth, as the body is smooth. Obviously, liking the taste of black coffee is prerequisite to enjoying this brew. But, this just might be good enough to convert Stout lovers that don't think they'd like the coffee addition. The two leading tastes are in great balance here and the 7.3 percent ABV is unnoticed. There's only sparse glass lacing and the head, what little there was, short-lived. It may be from a small and little known brewery, at least to date, but this is one excellent coffee stout.
