This was the last beer that I picked up on my way back home from the opposite side of the country, as I found it at a Kroger in Athens, Georgia late last year. Never had, nor heard of, Tantrum before as this was a decent first impression from them. Not quite sure if this meant to be an Imperial, or a Milkshake IPA, as the end result was a brew that was quite heavy, sweet, and a slow sipper.

Quite a dark hue and muddled appearance to this beer as the sediment was all over the amber liquid that didn't let much light through. This had enough head to it as the lacing left behind was mostly in the form of a few thick rings near the top of my pint glass. Lots of Citra and Cashmere in the nose as there as there was plenty of tangerine, blood orange, star and jack fruit, and candied sugar in the nose as the taste was much stickier and heavier, with some dankness from the other hops thrown in for good measure. The lactose took some of the edge off of this but it was still intense as this beer had a lot going on from the get-go.

That also included the alcohol and although I couldn't taste much of it, I certainly felt it on my breath by the time I finished this off. This *looks* like it was canned on 8/22 and if so, it could have held up better as I would have preferred to try this fresh. While not a bad beer, this had an overload of lactose and hops with the end result being something needing some softening. Worth a go once if you're into this sort of thing!

Straw gold color with moderate head that dissipates relatively quickly. Aroma is citrus with a hint of floral hops. Taste is citrus with some pine. Mouthfeel is smooth and slightly creamy. Moderate finish with a bit of bitterness.

Pours an opaque grapefruit juice deep straw/pale gold producing 2+ fingers of white, foamy head that leaves thin wisps & motes of lace. Not a very attractive beer. Aroma is orange, grapefruit, pineapple and other tropical fruit notes with a subdued pale malt background. I would call the bouquet delicate but interesting. Taste is earthy with notes of tropical fruit, orange, grapefruit and cracker malt. Drying in the finish it gravitates to a citrus, pine needle bitter aftertaste. Balanced throughout the finish the bitterness does not show up until the aftertaste begins to develop. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with moderate carbonation, juicy but at the same time a little thin on the tongue, dry & faintly astringent in the aftertaste. Regardless of what this beer might lack in some categories, for a DIPA it goes down smooth and fast. It is oh so drinkable! The 8.4 ABV is basically undetectable in either the nose or mouth. With that said be careful this stuff could be dangerous. Take heed.
