This was the last of a bunch of single beers that I picked up in Williamsburg a few weeks back. Never saw this before and never heard of 18th Ward either, as I do my best to keep up with anything brewed in Kings County. This was a funky beer and not quite like the New England IPA's that I was accustomed to as a bit more raw and spicy than I was expecting, although it wasn't a bad beer and certainly enjoyable on this seasonable summer night!
Not a bad pour to this as the hue was a deep goldenrod with a few dark bits floating in it and some more sediment settling at the bottom. The head was thick, spongy, and settled a bit unevenly as some big bubbles rose to the surface. A thick ring of lacing near the top and several way segments of rings remained as I worked my way through this. Tropical fruit, lime, pepper, and a hint of passion fruit in the nose as the taste was quite mixed, varied, and exotic from start to finish. German yeast, hearty and spicy bread, deep forest, tropical fruit pith, and dank hops combined to give a full and full-bodied taste that was a bit unusual and yet inviting at the same time. Slick and balanced, this got much better as it warmed up as it was nearly impossible to detect the alcohol as it combined the best of all of it's ingredients and influences.
Sweet in the aftertaste with some swamp water and deep forest left on the palate after this went down, I'd easily reach for another of these had it been here. For a neophyte, this wouldn't be the right introduction to the style although those more experienced with IPA's would enjoy the nuances that each additional sip brought. No date was on the bottom but I"d guess that this was part of the second release of this in December as it held up well during the six months since. The artwork on the label was oddly interesting and that turned out to be fitting for this brew, as it has me interesting to see what else these guys have dropped. Seek this out if you have the time to savor it for all it's worth.

!6 ouncer, w/o any dating info that I can find.
Pours out fully hazed and supporting a long lasting, frothy and pretty huge cap...leaves all sorts of fine webs and thick strands of lacing. Nice looking brew
Pungent hopped up nose, citric with a load of lime hitting the note. More then a hint of chives.
Full flavor and fresh tasting NEIPA, bold lime, pineapple n grapefruit all shining through. Well done and well worth a try.
