With brewers shaking hands across the pond, this Irish American stout features a smooth but pronounced roasted flavor without being overbearing. The use of specialty grains, oats, and flavorsome hops result in a light but creamy mouthfeel backed by a smooth, balancing bitterness. Subtle notes of coffee accent a milk chocolate-y richness. Brewed in collaboration with our friends at Baronscourt Brewing, Northern Ireland.

NO can date
Pours a foamy bubbly 1 finger tan head with good retention, soapy lacing, very dark mahogany to almost black color

Nose very dark malts, quite roasty and black malt char, a little burnt coffee, a bit of cocoa and spicy hop, it has an inky black malt character

Taste brings more roast, plenty of roast and some burnt coffee again, charred roast with some cocoa and very dark chocolate, oatmeal, bitterness from the roast and a mild spicy hop, burnt sugar, dry bitter spicy hop and bitter roast lingering

Mouth is med bod, creamy, med to higher prickly carb

Overall it's OK, super roasty and not that enjoyable, but it's a decent stout

A: opaque; very dark brown - almost black in color; 1 finger finely pored light brown head that receded to a wispy cap with a thick collar; OK lacing;

S: black coffee with a bit of cream;

T: bittersweet chocolate from start to finish; moderate bitterness at the end; there's a smoky character to this that comes through toward the end and lasts through the aftertaste;

M: medium bodied; moderate carbonation; moderately dry finish;

O: the smoky aspect to this was interesting;

Back with my second entry from the local Loophole. brewing, we have a traditional Irish stout to celebrate St Paddy's Day! Breaking up the influx of Guinness I consumed with dinner, we have a craft take on the style. Let's jump right in

Pours a very dark brown with 2 fingers of creamy mocha head that quickly fades to a thin cap and leaves minimal lacing

Unlike the Irish Dry I've been pounding back all night, the nose here is robust and dark. I'm picking up on aromas of charred black malt, toasted bread, lightly acidic coffee, milk chocolate, and earthy hops

A bit less expressive in taste, but the simplicity works well for what it is. On the front end of the sip I'm tasting roasted malt, light coffee, earthy hops, and dark bread. The swallow brings notes of sweetened coffee, milk chocolate, and smooth roasted malt

A medium body pairs with very gentle carbonation, resulting in a silky beer that goes down super easy. Finishes dry with a nice balance between sweetness and roast

This is damn good stuff, perfect for the occasion so I'm happy I found it while browsing for beer today

From the can, it pours a dark brown with a modest light brown head that soon reduces to a nice ring. In the nose, it is roasted and black malts. In the mouth, it is the same, strong flavors of black and roasted malts.

Poured from a 16 oz can produced 2 weeks ago into the test glass.
A - Deep mahogany color, hides the carbonation. Carrbonation however yileds a wonderful mocha cap, lacing is cirrus in format.
S - Char, cocoa powder, earthy and a touch of cigar wrap in there.
T - More of the light char, cocoa, a kiss of espresso, and again the earthy thread, classic hops I suspect.
M - Beautiful start, with fine semi sweet cocoa, then waves of dry bitterness roll on through. finish is quick and delightfully dry. Linger is char and cocoa powder in fine balance
O - A very good stout, in keeping with the classic drinkable flavor forward model, worth every effort to seek out and enjoy
