"100% Wheat Galaxy Smash IPA."
6.50% ABV.
On-draught @ the brewery (a few days after opening). A 10.5oz pour ran $8 USD...fuck me.
Pours a dull murky copper and a 2cm off-white head that fully recedes within 60 seconds. Not great looking.
TASTE: Faded tropical fruit. Loud yeasty esters. Subpar attenuation...not sure how they broke up the husks but the wheat taste is gummy and sweet.
Candied orange peel adds additional sweetness to what should be a bitter ale, but Galaxy isn't bringing much bitterness and its vaguely tropical flavour isn't quite enough to hang a whole beer on.
TEXTURE: Gummy and thick. Well-carbonated. Unrefreshing. Medium-bodied. Not the clean smooth mouthfeel I'd expect in a great IPA.
OVERALL: $8 for 10.5oz of this is laughable given its mediocrity. Definitely not a beer I'd buy again even at half the price (though price has no bearing on my rating). I can't imagine who'd sooner buy this over any widely distributed IPA available at $10 a sixer... Lagunitas IPA and Elysian Space Dust are available at any Walmart and blow this out of the water.
Maybe Zony needs time to dial in their beers?
