12 oz can poured into Batch 19 glass. No date.
Has a beautiful glowing chestnut body with a creamy head of 1 finger that dissipates to a small ring. Slight lacing left behind.
Aroma is a mix of roasted malt and coffee with a bit of nuttiness and some caramel sweetness. Maybe some hints of milk chocolate or chocolate malt in there too.
Flavor is bursting with nuttiness and caramel with undertones of milk chocolate and nutty dark bread dough. Coffee follows. It is acidic and roasty with hints of dark fruit. Finish is of peanut butter and caramel coffee.
Feel is creamy and smooth with some nice biting carbonation on the back end. Acidity pops up and stings the palate perfectly, and the roastiness creeps in at the finish with some mild alcohol warmth.
Overall, I think folks from Louisiana tend to rate their state's beers lower because now they are so accustomed to good beer landing/brewing in their state. There is nothing like this around here and believe me it would fly off the shelves. Super good sweet coffee brown, and I wish we got it locally.

Brumation has a thin, beige head, a clear, red-brown appearance, some bubbles, and minimum lacing. The aroma is of medium-roasted coffee, cream, and darker malts. The flavor is similar, with no appreciable bitterness. Mouthfeel is light to medium, and Brumation finishes medium dry. RJT

On-draught @ the brewery. $7 per 16 fl oz pour.
"Milk brown collaboration with Congregation Coffee." 4.50% ABV.
Undercarbonated and thin. Has a sweet malty base with lactose sugar in there too. I'm not finding the nutty flavours I'd look for in a great brown ale.
The lactose sugar mutes the coffee, not that the coffee brings much balancing bitterness to the table in the first place. It's earthy and mellow, lacking much roast or bitterness and bending Sumatran in character.
I can't say it's real well balanced...a more robust malt bill and omission of the unnecessary lactose sugar would get this on its way to being worth its high price.
Not a good brown ale or even recognizably one. The coffee additive is the best thing about it. Too smooth, slick, wet, and thin. I'd like to see them dump carafa in, pick a more robust coffee strain, bring in the nutty notes, and dispense with the lactose nonsense.
High C- (2.75) / BELOW AVERAGE
I think I'll give Zony some time to dial in their beers and get used to brewing at this scale before rating any more if their beers...this isn't promising work less than a week after opening, but maybe it's not fair to review this early.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
