This has been a 2022 beer fest favorite, so thrilled to finally see it in 500ML bottles. Split with my wife (or she’d have my nads in a silk bag).
The pour is storm-soaked red clay water with a head that collapses faster than the 2022 Twins bullpen. Nose is full frontal caramel.
Very Old Painless is a classic. Mucky, murky, chaotic malts sing of sweet sweet caramel & are instantly backed by a hard rock of bourbon & booze. Under that delicious mess are low, slow notes of molasses, brown sugar, toffee. Very sweet. Nice & thick for the style. After having just a couple ounces at a time I’m confident in saying I could take a small bottle of this solo.
Based on this excellent beer, if Falling Knife ever hops off the hazy train, I’ll have to grab some of their stuff. I’m waiting…

Pours a murky dark copper color with a fast receding tan head (poof). Smell is malty with toffee and caramel wood and bourbon. Taste has brown sugar ,cinnamon vanilla with caramel and dates, warming bourbon notes in finish. Mouth feel has nice mellow bourbon, spices fruit ,this was a pleasure to drink ,wow this is a home run .

A huge thanks to Jeff for this one. 750ml capped bottle into a Brooklyn Brewery snifter. Shared with schen9303.
Pretty typical appearance. Nose is caramel, brown sugar, toffee, and a creamy hop aroma. Sugary and deep. Solid and very aromatic. Beer opens sugary. Burnt brown sugar, caramel, and molasses up front. Some green fruit in the middle with more caramel and toffee. Honey, syrup, and brown sugar in the end and finish. Very solid. Body is full with low carbonation. Smooth and soft on the palate and goes down slightly hot and slick with a lingering, sticky aftertaste.
This one's pretty good. Body could be a bit fuller and flavor a bit richer but overall, I can see this one improving over a couple of years.

First offering from falling knife and am quite impressed. BA barleywine ales can hit the mark as much as any other beer and this one really does. Will definitely be back for more.

Side by side with the base. On tap. Darker color. Has a brown hue to the copper color.
The barrel adds so much to this beer. Warming bourbon, vanilla, oak, caramel, toffee, apple skins, orange citrus.
This was a treat. Very well done. Kudos to the new brewery.
