Pours a clear pale gold to yellow colored beer with a tall impressive white head.

Smell is sweet and bready with a good strong scent of Nobel hops. Quite herbal and floral to the nose there is something here that reminds me a bit of vanilla pudding without the vanilla in it.

Taste is slightly sweet with a good strong herbal bitterness at the start. Slightly astringent bitterness in the back of the throat gives way to a long lasting floral after taste. This is a quite nice Pilsner only thing I would change would be to make it a little drier.

Mouthfeel is good.

Drinkability is very good I could see making this my everyday beer if it was available locally.

I'm a big fan of refreshing pilseners that are finely crafted. Hard to find that combination but the boys at bischofshof have molded this one into a winner.

Poured into a pilsener glass (imagine that). Nice level head with good supporting carbonation and lacing that's significant. Not overly filtered like some of its sister beers, a slight haze and some sediment that rolls to the bottom. no worries.

Subtle aroma of spritzy hops but mostly a mellow laid back malted presence and some grassy/floral components.

I was very impressed with the taste. The hops are solid throughout each pull but they are subtle, No time through the gobble did they jump out at ya just subtly in the backdrop. Not your typical grainfestival this is some well refined and balanced mix. I didn't pick up any toasted flavors this is just a nicely balanced brew with top notch ingredients, judging by the incredibly smooth mouthfeel with nothing astringent or annoying this could be Easily a session beer for a nice day of BBQ and Football.

Appearance – This one pours a very light yellow in color with a huge, retentive head that showed some good lacing.

Smell – The hops here are very light and almost undetectable. The grain is quite heavy for the style but nice.

Taste – This Pils tastes more like a heavy-handed Munich Helles Lager. The grain is huge and the hops are AWOL.

Mouthfeel – This one is light to medium-body and heavy in the mouth for the style.

Drinkability – This is better than the average imported Pils but not the best that Germany has to offer. I lived in Regensburg for a number of years and drank a lot better than this at the local gausthaus.

Presentation: 500ml tall brown glass bottle, a style so typical of many Teutonic offerings. My bottle looks like that in the BA Database; a silver bordered white V-shaped neck label that has the words ‘Bischofshof Pils’, whereas the main label has a more expanded description listing the brew as ‘Bischofshof Prälat Pilsener’, which has a red, gold and blue Coat of Arms above that professes that the Brewery has been in existence since 1649. The back label states that the Pilsener is brewed in accordance with the Rheinheitsgebot. No strength listed but a Best Before Date of 01.01.05.

Appearance: Gorgeous appearance. Lovely yellow-gold body that has a very slight milky haze but nothing at all off-putting. Some streamers throughout the body but surprisingly little in the way of carbonation in this one. Big off-white fluffy and uneven head that has some serious staying power. Lovely thick rings of creamy lacing mix with some spattered foam which goes to form a superb presentation and lends a real quaffable “Pilsener-look” to this in the Glass.

Nose: As with the appearance, the nose does disappoint in enticing one to drink this one down. Incredibly fresh feel with lots of fauna in the aromas. Floral hops and a crisp biscuit Pilsener malt in the back end. Lemony traits with some inviting and refreshing quaffable tones. Great nose for a Pilsener!

Taste: Very clean, Pilsener Malts blend with the refreshingly fruity harvest hops, in turn some Haywain character permeates throughout with some lemon grass acidity, but yet this still retains a very nice floral character that helps to create a very soft feeling Pilsener indeed. Yummy.

Mouthfeel: Solid feel throughout. Lots of Pilsener Malts and a crisp clean bitterness that benefits well from the more fruity aspect of the Hops used. A very solid brew indeed.

Drinkability: This one quite literally went down way too easily, gone in as little as a few minutes!!! Highly Quaffable, it’s not even hot in Long Beach but it is warm and this hit the spot perfectly. For the first beer of the day it really quenched a thirst built up earlier and was a very easy going incredibly tasty Pilsener.

Overall: A very tasty Pilsener indeed. So often I find Pilseners to be very formulaic and a tad boring at times, but this one is genuinely lagered in cool cellars for 3 months and it really benefits from this I find.

Definitely one of the better German Pilsners out there!
Well worth seeking out and great value as well.

.5L bottle served chilled in a tall pilsener glass.

Appearance: Clear straw gold in color with very active carbonation. Topped by a huge, thick, white head that left a sizable cap of foam throughout consumption. Big splotches of foam were left on the glass.

Smell: Pleasantly subtle smell of Saaz and other noble hops. slightly grassy and herby with a splash of pepper.

Taste: Mildly sweet and lightly bready malts. A little splash of Saazy kick on the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel: Light, crisp, clean, and refreshing.

Drinkability: This is not one of the hoppy German pilseners I've heard about, but it's still well made. Darned if I can't see myself pounding liter steins of this in a German biergarden some day.

The Bischofshof (bishop's courtyard) brewery was founded in 1649 in Regensburg, Germany. A new brewery was built in 1910 and they currently produce 10 different beers. They do their own malting and lager their beers underground for up to 3 months. All of their beers are brewed in strict accordance with the Bavarian Purity law of 1516, including those for export.

The PrAlat Pilsener has an original gravity of 11.7 degrees Plato and 4.7% alcohol by volume. It pours a crystal-clear yellow-gold body that displays fast-rising, standard-sized bubbles beneath a frothy bright-white head which holds quite well and leaves some very nice lace throughout the entire glass. Richly aromatic, grainy malts and floral hops (Hallertau, Tettnanger) greet you in the nose and welcome you to imbibe. The body is medium with a fine, median carbonation that's gently crisp in the mouth before warming to become slightly creamy and ever-so-smooth. The flavor displays all of the character that's alluded to in the nose and more, with a rich blend of grainy, hay-like malt and grassy/floral hops backed by a firm bitterness that's omni-present but never steps beyond it's supporting role. This is a rich, fullfilling, and refreshing pilsener that offers massive drinkability. Expertly brewed and well worth seeking out for fans of the pilsener style.
