Hopalaa’s Black Walnut is an Imperial Stout from the Latvian brewery Hopalaa. This release is built on a complex malt base of Maris Otter and Munich malt, which gives depth to the dark notes. The addition of walnut and vanilla adds a nutty sweetness and a velvety texture. The aroma is characterized by coffee, cocoa and freshly chopped nuts.

Copenhagen 25/5 2026. 33 cl can from Øltanken web-shop. Black can illuminated by orange and gold luminescent shards.
Pours opaque dark brown with a small beige head. A bit bubbly. Settles as a thin, rim of foam running along the side of the glass. No lacing to speak of.
Aroma is intense with a sugary, dark and malty odor mingling with alcohol. Dark roasted malts, toffee and brown sugar. Sweet liqueur. A bit hard to detect the walnuts.
Low carbonation. Thick, oily, soft, viscous, fat, creamy and flat texture.
Flavor is intense with a strong sweetness followed by a light bitterness. Aftertaste is sweetish with a lightly bitter undertone. Finish is semi-dry and a bit searing.
They take their nuts with a lot of sugar.
