The beer is dark mahogany with rich, reddish highlights. The creamy chestnut head is short lived after reaching one inch and settles to a veil. It does leave some lace on the inaugural use of my Pretentious Beer Glass Company weisen glass.
The aroma is meaty and malty, with mild yeast. There is some chocolate and lots of wheat bread.
The malt flavor is pleasant, however, there is no banana or clove up front. That does come out with warmth. The sweet/bitter balance is tilted toward sharp bitterness. Wheat bread comes through in the long mild finish.
A medium to full body has a nylon texture. Alcohol is as expected in this beer with a somewhat dry finish.
Another nice beer, though I think it is more suited to the flavor and aroma of a Northern Brown Ale. I easily finished the half growler on a cool, wet, early Autumn afternoon.
