Appearance: Pours a thick, satiney black color. No light shines through. A creamy tan foam head with great retention. Sticky lacing.
Aroma: a nice balance of oakiness, sweet roasted malts and booze from the barrel. Subtle hint of coffee.
Taste: Well balanced. I get oakiness and roasted flavors up front. Sweet malts in the middle, and bitterness at the end that lingers around for a while. A nice silky mouthfeel.
Overall: this is a unique stout. It is fairly complex and very well balanced. The bitterness I found to be a very pleasing surprise, and it helps level out the sweetness from the malts. This is probably one of my new favorite stouts.
