my first from these guys, an italian pils, never really dug the whole military vibe when breweries make that their identity, but here appears to be another one of them. this is pretty solid beer through, a nice hoppy pils with some balancing sweetness, and rather well refined overall, drinkable and agreeable, but also just a little bit distinctive, and i think thats a nice place for this style to land. blonde and clear with a slightly better than average white head, well carbonated with a slow fade, airy and light overall, tidy and excited. the nose is floral and pleasant, with mild pils malt crackery character and just a touch more sweetness to me than is common, although we do not have this freezing cold and that perceived sweetness sometimes comes up at temperature. the hops seem well proportioned, grassy and noble, not overdone, faint green tea, pineapple fruitiness, and maybe honey, but still a pils with some lager yeast coming through here too, clean as it is. the flavor has good balance, increasingly hoppy as it moves along but only ever a little bit bitter, and its not heavy from malt but the grain is robust to me in this, riding its sweetness, fresh and full flavored for also being pale and light, and i think its a nice foundation overall. this could however finish a little drier and more crisp, it tastes like a lager but lacks the back end abruptness that would really make this refreshing. the hop flavor is herbal and with light lemony character, the lagering is fine, and overall this is pretty good. military crap aside, this is a pretty strong take on the style, well done.
