The head forms a frothy 2.5", taupe cap, leaving no lace on a shaker pint glass, and settles to nothing after two minutes. The beer is deep amber to light copper (SRM 10-14) with a light haze.
The aroma is modest, with dark bread, possibly rye. Toasted malt has a nutty smell. Hops are light, doughy with cobwebs. There is a mild smokiness, that turns to cigar ash, leaving the impression of aspirin and dust.
The flavors follow the nose, with moderate bitterness and sweetness in balance. Malt is moderate and the hops are faint. The finish is similar to cold, day-old black coffee.
It has a light body, with soft carbonation and leaves an unpleasant residue on the throat and tongue.
This is a one and done beer for me. We visited the brewery on a whim. The place looks nice enough, a rural farm with lots of seating and old tractors in a big pole barn.
