2026:
Forest Park location.

Nice to see them open their own spot in the former Exit Strategy space. It’s an open layout with tables up front, a bar to the right, and more tables in back. Comfortable and relaxed, lots of groups and families on a Thursday night in January. Warm and cheerful decor, some local art on the walls and a Lotería game in progress.

Beer selection was mostly their core lineup, it would be nice to see more rotating one-offs. They don’t brew on site here, to my knowledge. The food menu had some interesting Mexican specialties like pozole and quesabirria, in addition to staples like tacos, wings, and burgers. Service was friendly, and it was a great experience here overall.

2019:
District Brew Yards location.

Casa Humilde is currently the newest brewery in town, and the latest member of the District Brew Yards brewery collaborative. This place is new and state-of-the-art, stop at the front desk and head up the ramp, inside along the back wall is the Casa Humilde brewery kiosk with 6 rotating beers, cans to go up front, and some assorted swag in the front also. It really doesn't seem right to judge a brewery based on a handful of beers at a kiosk, but here we are.

The Casa Humilde kiosk was modeled after a colorful house you might see in Mexico, with a bright turquoise door, simple stucco wall, a multicolored 'papel picado' banner overhead, maybe from Dia de los Muertos earlier in the week. An original painting hung on the door, a contemporary portrait of a young latina woman. They win the award for best brewery kiosk at DBY, it's unique and well put together.

Their beers were the cleanest of the 4 breweries, no duds. Some were simpler than others, but often a straightforward clean lager or table beer is more drinkable than the latest haze juice. The highlight for me was a coffee porter, Cafecito. I tried all 6 of the beers they had: a Mexican lager, Vienna lager, juicy APA, table beer, saison, and coffee porter. A good mix of easygoing styles to start, and they will only expand and rotate in more styles to fill out the 10 taps at their kiosk.

The self-pour concept for a brewery was kind of impersonal, it left me wanting some kind of interaction with brewery staff. Hopefully they will host events in the future where you can talk to someone from the brewery.

Overall I had a solid first impression from these guys, and look forward to what they brew in the future. They are distributing right away, so look for their beers in cans around town.

It's not much of an assuming building (as if many truly are, even I understand that function should dominate over flowery form), but inside is an intgeresting idea - a new one to me, at the very least: Before heading up the ramp, you give your credit/debit information to the cashier, who gives you a card. This card you use at the various kiosks (rather, wall portions with taps attached, just to give the proper visual) to pay for the pours you provide yourself. Yup, you can pour as much or as little as you want. Not sure why everywhere doesn't charge this way (you don't need the self-serve, just really flexible menus and/or bartenders), especially to cater to the manic tickers amongst us, myself primus inter those particular pares. Up the ramp, you get the main space, across the way from the brewing equipment, which houses the various breweries' kiosk walls and a BBQ joint for some food. The CH station was against the far wall, near the door to some patio seating. As the range was a bit heavy on the IPAs, I opted for the Belgian blonde and a fruited table beer, because of course I did. Both were pretty good, though the table beer didn't finish in a way all that favorable to me. Accompanying the suds are some board games and whatnot. As much as you serve yourself, you also bus your own tables (something that should be more common, just sayin'). Everything was actually pretty nice as far as atmosphere goes, mostly due to the fact that the space isn't as, well, spacious as one might assume, given the circumstances. It just feels like something of a cozy gaming hall that happens to have some beers a-flowin'. Not much in the way of comment on the staff, though the cashier and attendant (for lack of a better term for the gentleman who showed me how things worked, it being my first visit) were rather genial and helpful. Good times had at the CH station, indeed, and I look forward to seeing what they'll have on offer in the future.
