From a 16oz can, undated. Purchased at the brewery 08/29/21. (Insta shows 08/13/21 release date). Served in a spiegelau-style IPA glass.
Pours straight-up orange juice with two fingers of soft foam. Retention is pretty good, leaving a thick sudsy cap and a tattered curtain of heavy lacing.
Nose is bright and juicy. Aromas of orange, pineapple, strawberry, and weedy, leafy greens.
Taste is dense and dank, earthy, juicy. Orange slices and macerated tree leaf. Composty pineapple, passionfruit, a vegetal note like chard (?), a smidge of citric bitterness and then just a little cinnamon-like boozy spice at the finish.
Feel is juicy, quenching, medium-hefty bodied with bright carbonation. Just a little warm glow in the gullet, utterly right and proper considering the abv.
Overall, a very nice big boy NEDIPA! I’ve learned to avoid triples but the brewer convinced me to give this one a try, and I’m glad he did. (Of course, he also said it was brewed with citra, mosaic and simcoe while the description quite clearly says citra, mosaic and Zappa - either way it’s pungent and earthy with some sort of wild and weedy, enticing flavor notes). My problem with triple IPA's is that they are often heavy and lifeless, while my problem with West L.A. IPA's is that the flavors are often muted and thin - so this had to be like peanut butter and chocolate, right?

Pours a hazy yellow orange with a finger plus sticky white head that leaves thick streaks of lace with excellent retention. 4.5
Aroma peach, mango, passionfruit, clove, orange rind, and grapefruit. 4
Taste is peach, mango, passionfruit, orange, grapefruit, and a little alcohol is detected, but does not over take the fairly balanced flavor. 4
Mouthfeel is big, not dry but a tad sticky, fairly soft gentle carbonation, and at 9.8% it goes down rather easy. 4
Overall this is the first beer I have had from this rather young brewery and I am rather impressed with this one. 4
