Had a pint out of the cask at Nocturnem in Bangor, Maine.
Appearance: This beer is a somewhat murky amber color with a short white head. There doesn't seem to be much carbonation, which isn't surprising since it was casked. Looks nice.
Aroma: Rye and malts dominate the nose. Also some faint hops and a little breadiness.
Taste: Hey, this is a tasty beer. The rye and malts in nose are even more forward on the palate. There's also a nice peppery backing flavor, possibly from the rye. Really nice, balanced taste. Alcohol isn't vey noticeable. Really good stuff.
Mouthfeel: Perfect depth of body - smooth, creamy and easy, and far from watery.
Overall: Terrific rye ale. Would have another. It paired perfectly with my veggie burger at this bar, which you should hit when you're in Bangor - great mix of local, Belgian and Scottish beers on tap/cask. This was a terrific addition to their mix.
