Our best selling beer, probably owing to its mildness and light body. Golden in color, Bug is a refreshing, Bohemian Pilsner. Our gateway beer to what lies beyond.

On tap at the source.
Comes to the table a crystal clear straw color with a bubbly wisp of a white head that shows great retention. Aromas of sweet honey like malt with some hints of floral and spicy hops. The flavor continues on the sweet path definitely leaning towards the malty end of the spectrum. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation. The brewpub calls this a bohemian lager but I think thats more marketing than a true to life description of what is in my glass. Its quite sweet and the hops are a bit subdued for the style. Call it an American lager because thats what it is, albeit a little sweet.

Poured on-tap and served in a vase, the beer is a bright, vibrant, goldenrod coloring with no head. Aromas are clean, with a hint of floral and roasted grains. Flavors are slightly fruity, with a roasted grain and lightly hopped backbone. Roasted and tangy aftertaste with a clean, crisp finish. Well done Lager.

From tap at the Publick House, this is always a good light choice. Not usually a lager fan, but this has a good flavor unlike most bland lagers. Bubble gum comes to mind, but that sounds bad and bug lager is good, so I'm not sure how to describe it...a sweetness bite that is good. Anyway, this pours light amber with a nice small lacy head. Good stuff, and make a trip to the pub in Hallowell whenever you can, it's well worth the visit!

Swinging back through Hallowell I stopped at this lovely haunt where I had previously met a lovely lady who I did anything but lovely things to. Anyways... off the tap this beer was a clear yellow/gold color with a cream-colored head. The retention was as a thin skim and the lacing moderate. The aroma was dry and grainy with some slightly sour malt. The flavors were odd for a lager, starting with pale malt it became semi-sweet with some alcohol notes that then became more tart and hoppy with notes of grapefruit and orange at the end. Acidic, slightly herbal and confusing. The mouthfeel was smooth, the carbonation good and the body medium.

Not quite as impressed with this one as some of the others I've had from there. Yellow body with no head and little carbonation to speak of. Tastes of citrus with little bitterness. It was better than I thought it’d be. Similar in some ways to Pilsner Urquell, but more flavorful I think. Deffinitely don't think this is an American macro lager...

On-tap at the brewpub. Served into a 20oz pilsner-style glass.

Served a chill-hazed yellow with a compact white head. Smell is of honey and apples. Taste is very similar to the smell, honey and apples. The mouthfeel is thick and the carbonation is ample but not overpowering, also slightly sticky in the finish. This beer would have benefited from one of the Liberal Cup’s half-pints. I got halfway through the pint with the feeling that I had enough. It was too sweet for my liking, lacking hop presence, it is very much an interpretation of a large American style lager.

I would have had more of these if oh, I was staying in Hallowell, not driving, etc. Medium golden when poured, head disipated very quickly. Very clear. Sweet floral aroma with a good mouthfeel featuring plenty of tight carbonation. Taste was slightly grainy, yet still smooth. Full flavored American version that I would get again, no problem. pat ps. I guessed on the style...
